Chromatone "Colour To Sound" experimental converter by John Becker Everyday Practical Electronics, November 2005 This wonderful novelty circuit is a twist on the traditional sound to light converter often seen at clubs and discos. A PIC18F252 microcontroller is fed with colour data representing the colour detected, and converted into a single value representing the colour sensed. A musical "note" is sounded, from across several octaves. A series of Sharp IS474 opto detectors is used to detect RGB values and convert the colours into an electrical signal. Circuit includes built-in envelope shaper and audio output for direct speaker or 'phones.
