This super design is an ideal workshop tool for those utilising
Atmel's versatile EEPROM microcontrollers. These devices
are industry favourites but now with the EPE design, hobbyists
and enthusiasts can put these chips to work.

The constructional article describes a simple programmer
for 20-pin 2051/ 1051 devices, followed by the description of a
demo board with which you can experiment using these devices.

The programmer runs from a PC parallel port using our associated
DOS software.

The programmer uses an ISP2032 controller chip (44 pin PLCC)
which is available in the UK preprogrammed by the author, or
you can program your own using the software here. An external
PSU is required (14.5V - 18V 200mA).

An experimental test board is also described, which is a simple
test bed for 2051/ 1051 program development. A MAX232 provides an
RS232 port to allow comms with a PC via a terminal emulation program.
The unit also writes to an l.c.d. display.
